Rodent Information (Tree of Life)
RODENTS
Roughly 40% of all mammal species are rodents. Rodents have a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws. Rodents are extremely diverse in their ecology and lifestyles and can be found in almost every terrestrial habitat, including human-made environments (mouse in the house).
This case includes some representatives of deer mice (Peromyscus) collected from throughout the United States. They are outstanding runners and jumpers. Notice differences in size, coloration, tail length, and other features that distinguish the species.
