Northern Coastal California Field Trip
9 July - 13 July 2008

First Day (9 July 2008):
- Pickup field trip participants at either Oakland International Airport or San Francisco International Airport; there will also be an option for picking up a limited number of participants at the Monterey Airport.
- Travel to Point Reyes Hostel.
- Settle into Hostel (bedding is provided; accommodations are in shared rooms)
- Dinner
- Distribute, and review field trip plans.
Second Day (10 July 2008): Arise, prepare for day, breakfast. Leave at 8:00 am
- Tour Park Visitors' Center and hike Earthquake Trail
- Collection Site No. 1 - Red Alder forest, near junction of Sir Francis Drake HWY and Mount Vision Road.
- Collection Site No. 2 - Bishop Pine and Douglas Fir woodland, along Mount Vision Road.
- Lunch
- Collection Site No. 3 - Coyote Shrub Chaparral, along Mount Vision Road
- Return to hostel - dinner
- Visit Lighthouse Visitor Center - optional
- Review/discuss collections.
Third Day (11 July 2008): Arise, prepare for the day, breakfast. Leave at 8:00 am.
- Collection Site No. 1 - Bolinas Trail Ridge - Manzanita Chaparral
- Lunch
- Collection Site No. 2 - Coastal grassland (along West Ridgecrest BLVD). This site has various tree species and rock substrata (including a serpentine outcrop)
- Return to hostel - dinner
- Visit Pierce Ranch and the remarkable Fence Lichens - No collecting!!!
- Review/discuss collections.
Fourth Day (12 July 2008): Arise, prepare for the day, breakfast. Leave at 8:00 am.
- Collection Site No. 1 - Crane Creek Regional Park: Oak - Native Buckeye woodland
- Lunch, at local winery
- Collection Site No. 2 - Seashore rocks (Bodega Harbor)
- Collection Site No. 3 - Elephant Rock
- Return to hostel - dinner
- Review/discuss collections
Fifth Day (13 July 2008): Arise, prepare for day, breakfast, and prepare for departure. Leave at 9:00 am.
- Travel to Asilomar
- Lunch
- Arrive at Asilomar
Field trip logistics
- Transportation, lodging, and food costs will be covered from participant fees.
- This field trip will accommodate a maximum of 20 people.
- At the conclusion of the IAL6 meetings your return trip will be by public transportation by your own arrangements. San Francisco International Airport is the closest international airport to the meeting site.
- Approximate field trip cost: $495/person (July 9 - 13, 2008), including room and board. To sign up for the interest list, send you name and email address to Larry St. Clair. Reservations will made at time of paid registration, so register early!!
